About the Program

Green Lease Leaders is a designation created to recognize companies or brokerage teams that successfully implement green lease language into new or existing leases. 

While the concept of green leasing has been tested and discussed for years, there previously has been no distinct standard to define what constitutes a green lease. The Green Lease Leaders program is moving the field of green leasing forward by simultaneously setting standards for what constitutes a green lease and recognizing leaders in the green leasing field.

The program was developed by the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), with support from the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Alliance.

Why Apply?

Being recognized as a Green Lease Leader will further bolster the sustainability profile of selected organizations. The program is supported by the Department of Energy's Better Buildings Program and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).
Is My Company Eligible?

Recognition is available for:

  1. Commercial landlords
  2. Commercial tenant companies
  3. Commercial brokers*
  4. Transaction Teams


Note: ​Firms that primarily create income as a third party property manager are encouraged to submit as part of a transaction team, as they are not eligible for other recognition.

*including brokerage teams, individual brokers, transaction management teams, and related groups.

The Green Lease Leader designation is the official recognition of Green Lease Library, the leading resource for green leasing information on the web. The Green Lease Leader designation recognizes companies or brokerage teams that successfully implement green lease language into new or existing leases.
